person-centered activities

What is life without activity and purpose? You may have seen your loved one become more isolated, depressed, and alone because of their limited mobility and depleting social networks. Current research supports the importance of stimulating the mind, body, and spirit with rich and relevant activity in a social context to combat these negative feelings. This is where Fairmount shines! Our resident-centered activity programs are designed with the individual in mind.

Activity
Our physical activity program focuses on core strengthening, balance, upper body mobility, and fun! We offer regular sit and fit exercises and movement games, often accompanied with music and experienced fitness instructors. Our gated walking path allows for daily strolls in the fresh air. Physical fitness is intended to firm the muscles and energize the body.

Mindfulness
Mental stimulation is provided through professional story telling, current events, discussion groups, traditional bingo and board games, and our Expression Studio collaborative arts program. Activities of this sort foster our awareness and fuel the mind.

Spirituality
Spirituality is supported through mindfulness, bible study, or meditation. On Sundays, residents can take advantage of our Bible study and worship. Music also abounds at Fairmount. Banjo, piano, guitar, sing-alongs, and harp music are some of our regularly scheduled programs. How about FUN!? Special guests, miniature ponies, birthday parties, and holidays are important in honoring the past and present, as well as a providing a time for visiting with friends and family. These activities go together to support the soul and empower the spirit.

health and well being

At Fairmount, we take the day to-day care of our residents seriously and have implemented a number of programs to support their health and well-being.

Nutrition
You are what you eat...so the old adage goes. However, we now have scientific evidence that health begins by what we put into our bodies. That is why we take the food we serve so seriously. Our bodies require optimal nutritional support to thrive and be healthy, particularly those who are elderly and combatting life’s obstacles. Our menu is a combination of whole, fresh foods, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fresh fish and meats, that are skillfully prepared and presented on site in an array of colors, textures, and flavors. You won’t find prepared foods, canned meals/veggies or any of today’s other fast foods at Fairmount. Meals are then served and shared family style to provide time for socialization and interaction amongst friends and family. This makes mealtime feel like home, all translating to better nutrition, better health, and better living! We also believe in the old saying, breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper. All three meals have their purpose based upon the body’s optimal functioning levels. Breakfast is made to order, lunch is the main meal of the day and dinner is generally soup, salad, sandwiches or lighter meals.

Primary Medical Care
Our in-house geriatric medical care team, through Triad Medical Group, provides many of our residents the needed medical attention they need and deserve. For those who have difficulty being transported to appointments, need regular on-site medical supervision, or don’t have a primary care physician of their own, our residents find significant benefit from these added services. Labs, x-rays, urine collections, and more can all be performed on-site to avoid unnecessary trips to the hospital, urgent care, or outside medical services that further complicate an elderly person’s life.

Ancillary Services
At Fairmount, we have partnered with local home health care agencies and other medical related services to provide residents with necessary physical, occupational, nursing, and hospice care, as well as incontinent supplies, hospital beds, wheelchairs, and medical equipment necessary for optimal living directly in our environment. Our latest addition, the Sunflower Therapeutic Room, was designed to provide space and equipment for rehabilitation due to a recent fall, injury, or other medical issue. Things like parallel bars, bed mat platform, and recumbent bike all help in our residents' speedier recovery.

levels of care

We will assess your loved one prior to admission. This will be done in conjunction with input from the family and all treating medical personnel as well as an in-person meeting with your loved one. This can be done wherever they may be whether it is in their home, in the hospital or other health care facility, or at our community. We will determine their needs based upon the following levels of care:

Supervisory Level of Care – Fairmount provides general monitoring for overall well-being and day to day functioning.

Personal Level of Care – Fairmount provides hands-on care to assist with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, transfer, and moving with a walker or wheelchair.

Directed Level of Care – Fairmount provides supervision and direction for residents who have higher level physical or cognitive limitations. These residents may be unable to make basic decisions about their own care and safety. Residents may need encouragement to complete tasks.

environment

They say “home is where the heart is” and Fairmount is all about home. We have created an environment that is rich and creative, open and stimulating, and one that nurtures the needs and abilities of all of our residents including their desires of home.

Studies have also confirmed that positive environmental design reduces medication use, stimulates recovery from illness, and promotes peace and well-being. Our hybrid model, serving approximately 30 residents, offers both the comforts and intimacy of a smaller home-like environment with the activities and socialization typically found in larger assisted living communities. This offers each of our residents the ability to be cared for on a personal level with the detail expected in their own home while also having the availability to develop more friendships and social interactions not otherwise available at home.

Open community and dining areas, sunrooms, outside patios, large expansive windows, natural light, and gated outdoor walking paths and courtyard, as well as new friends, are a few examples of what makes Fairmount the place to call home.
